The original sounds with the "breaking glass" weren't too bad, maybe some more armour-being-hit-by-shit sounds could do. You could also up the pitch and speed on the alarm so that it only runs for a few seconds, or so that it only beeps like twice (a la Half-Life's HEV suit: "<BEEP> <BEEP> <BEEP> Warning! User death imminent!").

I think it should start beeping only when healt is 15 and lower
My idea of pains sunds is..well..a lot of random crashes, squeaks, metallic impacts with some "bzzzzt" emitted by the energy shield becoming weaker
Well, Doom 3 does have an audio taunt system already. I was thinking of enhancing that at some point to have UT-style "autotaunting", where players select one of several vaguely racially offensive stereotyped voice kits ("Big Russian Dude", "Alabama Hick", "Snooty French Type", etc.) and their character in-game will automatically spam taunts at the other players upon kill/death:
"Ha ha! Stick to pounding ground, loser!"
"In Soviet Russia, ship flies you!"
"Y'all have a real nice day now, y'hear?"
